Durante el mes de mayo 2024, IEPROES desarrolló las XVII JORNADAS DE SOCIALIZACIÓN “CIENCIA, CULTURA, DEPORTE Y SOCIEDAD: POR UNA EDUCACIÓN SUPERIOR DE CALIDAD”, un espacio donde se presentaron los logros y desafíos de los proyectos de investigación científica, proyección social, cultura, arte y deporte realizados en el año 2023.

Las investigaciones y los proyectos de proyección social fueron implementados en la zona central, paracentral, occidental y oriental de El Salvador. Estos proyectos no solo representan el progreso académico, sino que también son un testimonio de nuestro compromiso con el desarrollo científico y social de nuestra región. Los distintos proyectos presentados tributan al cumplimiento de los Objetivos de Desarrollo Sostenible definidos en la Agenda 2030 dictada por la ONU y se orientan a las áreas de salud, educación, psicología y medio ambiente. 

Se presentaron un total de 6 investigaciones institucionales y 18 proyectos de proyección social mediante las modalidades de conferencia, panel de expertos y poster científicos. Además, los 5 proyectos de Extensión Cultural, Arte y Deporte fueron socializados mediante conferencias y a través de stands que ilustraron los procesos y productos generados por los estudiantes, como parte del desarrollo integral que se promueve en esta institución de educación superior.

También, se pudo dar a conocer la producción de los libros publicados bajo el sello editorial de Ediciones EDIPRO y los avances de nuestra revista científica Salud y Desarrollo, habiendo realizado la entrega de 362 libros, sin costo alguno. Estos trabajos son una muestra de la riqueza intelectual y el espíritu innovador que caracteriza a nuestra institución.

Se contó con una asistencia de 271 participantes, entre representantes del Ministerio de Salud, Ministerio de Educación, Ciencia y Tecnología, Ministerio de Medio Ambiente y Recursos Naturales, Procuraduría para la Defensa de los Derechos Humanos, Instituto Salvadoreño de Seguro Social, Comité Paralímpico de El Salvador, instituciones de educación superior, hospitales, unidades de salud, alcaldías, ONGs, ADESCOS, institutos nacionales, centros escolares, museos, casas de la cultura y diferentes medios de comunicación.

Celebramos el arduo trabajo y compromiso de 35 académicos dedicados a estos procesos investigativos y extensionistas, quienes han hecho posible alcanzar los logros presentados, el involucramiento de nuestros estudiantes en estos proyectos y el respaldo de las autoridades para la correcta ejecución de los mismos. 

Estas jornadas realizadas en su 17ª edición, fueron llevadas a cabo el 17 de mayo (en un hotel de San Miguel), el 29 de mayo (en un restaurante de Santa Ana) y el 31 de mayo (en un hotel capitalino), constituyéndose en una plataforma que facilitó diversas coordinaciones sobre el inicio de alianzas con actores clave para desarrollar acciones conjuntas en función de un desarrollo sostenible.

El Instituto Especializado de Profesionales de la Salud (IEPROES), a través de su programa de becas, tiene como objetivo brindar apoyo financiero a estudiantes destacados en el aspecto académico y con necesidad económica, permitiéndoles acceder a oportunidades educativas. Para el Ciclo I – 2024  el IEPROES beneficio un total de 303 estudiantes de nuevo ingreso y antiguo ingreso, que incluyen becas institucionales, bajo convenio y colaboración externa. Los beneficiarios son residentes de municipios tales como San Salvador, Colón, Soyapango, Zacatecoluca, San Pedro Nonualco, San Marcos, Ahuachapán, Metapán, Tacuba, Atiquizaya, Quelapa, Jocoro, Nueva Granada, Tecapán, entre otros.

Además, por primera vez, se implementó la entrega de beneficios de manutención a 12 estudiantes de las diferentes dependencias del IEPROES. Este apoyo económico tiene como objetivo cubrir parte de las necesidades básicas de los estudiantes y sus familias, contribuyendo así a su bienestar y desarrollo académico.

Con estas acciones, la institución busca formar profesionales de la salud integrales y líderes, quienes demuestran un excelente rendimiento académico y están capacitados para desempeñarse en diversas áreas de la educación superior, como investigación, proyección social y extensión cultural. Con estas acciones de apoyo se refleja el compromiso del IEPROES con el desarrollo educativo y profesional de sus estudiantes, así como con el fortalecimiento del sistema de salud.

Charting the Path to a Sustainable Future: Research Congress in Environmental and Health Sciences, an Initiative Led by IEPROES

The II Congress of Research in Environmental and Health Sciences, CICAS 2023, was held under the slogan "Higher Education: defiance and challenges of scientific research for sustainable development", organized by the Specialized Institute of Health Professionals, IEPROES.

This congress was a meeting space for researchers, academics and students from 26 countries from different continents such as Canada, the United States, Argentina, Spain, Qatar, Slovenia, Angola, Mozambique, Panama, among others.

We kicked off CICAS 2023 with four pre-congress courses that addressed various areas of research, such as health, health promotion, environmental management, and environmental education. 

These courses were led by international professionals with expertise in these topics, who used a hybrid modality for four hours and then spent more than 25 hours evaluating the participants' individual work. More than 200 people from different countries attended.

The scientific program of the congress included three keynote lectures with professionals from Spain, the United States and Slovenia, and two expert panels with representatives from Mexico, Cuba, Panama, Argentina, Colombia and El Salvador.

We had 520 participants, more than 100 papers were presented in hybrid mode, in addition to 15 scientific posters, these representatives came from 9 different countries, and it is important to note that most of the presentations were made by students.

During the CICAS, the 1st Latin American Meeting of Students of Environmental and Health Sciences, "Contributions of student scientific research to sustainable development" was held, with an outstanding participation of students, encouraging the exchange of ideas and reflection, during the panel the students expressed the need to promote innovation and research.

CICAS has stood out as an environment conducive to learning, reflection and exchange, where motivation and interest in contributing to shared knowledge with the purpose of raising the quality of Higher Education Institutions prevails.

In an effort to strengthen academic cooperation and promote excellence in research, the Specialized Institute of Health Professionals IEPORES and the University of Cienfuegos of Cuba signed a collaboration agreement on Monday, November 27, within the framework of the II Congress of Research in Environmental and Healthcare Sciences, CICAS 2023.

The agreement establishes the basis for close collaboration in areas of mutual interest, such as multidisciplinary research, student exchange programs and joint academic development projects.

Among the highlights of the agreement is the exchange of resources, knowledge and experience between the two institutions, with a particular focus on the areas of psychology and psycho-pedagogy.

The signing of this agreement represents a significant step towards the internationalization of both institutions, providing additional opportunities for students, professors and researchers to work in intercultural and multidisciplinary environments.

In an emotive and significant graduation ceremony, more than 650 IEPROES students successfully completed their studies in Bachelor's Degrees, Nursing Technicians, Nursing Technologists and Environmental Health Technicians.

 The graduation ceremony, held in San Salvador, Santa Ana and San Miguel, was a testament to the hard work and dedication these graduates have invested in their educational preparation, even in the midst of unexpected challenges such as the COVID-19 pandemic.

Wearing their ceremonial uniforms, the future healthcare professionals collected their diplomas, marking an important milestone in their lives and a renewed commitment to serve society with integrity and care. The presentation of these degrees was presided over by the Director General, the Secretary General, the director and academic administrator of each IEPROES center.

During the ceremony there was time for the awarding of diplomas to students who successfully completed the diploma courses in Diploma in Medical Surgical Material Handling Techniques and in Surgical Center.

We invite graduates to assume their crucial role in health care and to contribute to the well-being of society and their patients.

IEPROES in the framework of the collaboration in the International Research 2023 "IN SEARCH OF THE ORIGIN OF PLASTIC BOTTLES" led by the International Network of Garbage Scientists, on October 16, developed from 8:00 a.m., a collection of plastic bottles in the city of San Miguel, City of La Union, Playa El Espino and Playa Las Tunas. The event was attended by authorities, teachers, researchers and students of the institution with the accompaniment of Mr. Mauricio Ergas, researcher of the Universidad Católica del Norte of the Republic of Chile and part of Garbage Scientists.

Once the collection was completed, the bottles were analyzed at the San Miguel Regional Center to determine their origin and condition, as well as to gather information as part of IEPROES' contribution to international research.

This procedure is being carried out in more than 10 countries in Latin America, with different institutions or volunteers joining this international research. The purpose of this research is to propose and implement individual and collective actions to mitigate or prevent the problems generated by the production and consumption of beverages in plastic containers, for healthcare and the environment.

This study will generate a valuable contribution by addressing a global problem, so IEPROES joins this effort aware that it is a concrete work that contributes to the defense of healthcare and the environment and also contributes to the fulfillment of the Sustainable Development Goals established in the 2030 Agenda.

During the week of September 21-27, the last transnational meeting of the SmartNurse project was held at the Autonomous University of Aguascalientes, Mexico. The meeting was attended by the different universities of the consortium, Tampere University of Applied Sciences, Finland; University of Ljubljana, Slovenia; Gerardo Barrios University, Specialized Institute of Health Professionals and University of El Salvador, El Salvador; and Autonomous University of San Luis Potosi and Autonomous University of Aguascalientes, Mexico. 

The objective was to finalize the SmartNurse methodology e-book with working sessions and the dissemination of the results of the project at the XIII University Nursing Congress organized by the Autonomous University of Aguascalientes. 

In addition to participating in conferences and workshops, Mr. Maximiliano Campos participated in the panel "Differences and similarities between the healthcare systems of El Salvador, Mexico, Finland and Slovenia". Master Melissa Calderón also participated in the panel "Experiences of Collaboration in projects with the European Union" together with international professionals from the different institutions participating in the consortium.

Este año en la Universidad de Quindio, Armenia, Colombia se realizo el XVII Congreso Latinoamérica y Caribeño de Extensión Universitaria – Proyección Social, bajo el lema “La extensión como estrategia de transformación territorial” entre el 14 y 18 de agosto

Nuestra institución, IEPROES tuvo una destacada participación durante dicho Congreso presentando diferente ponencias. En la primera jornada, se presentó una ponencia titulada «Promoción de prácticas de estilo de vida saludables en el marco de la pandemia COVID-19 en las comunidades de San Jorge y Hosanna», ponencia que resaltó la importancia de fomentar hábitos saludables en tiempos de crisis, y cómo estas comunidades han abordado los desafíos planteados por la pandemia. En total IEPROES participo con seis ponencias que abordaron proyectos claves incidiendo en la realidad social de nuestro país.

Además, Dra. Celina Ventura, Directora General de la institución participo en el Panel Central de Rectores, compartiendo valiosas perspectivas e información y contribuyendo al diálogo académico.

Durante el evento también tuvimos la oportunidad de presentar el libro «Vinculación de la Docencia, la Investigación y la Proyección Social – Anuario 2022», dentro de este se resalta la labor integral que IEPROES realiza en la integración de la docencia, la investigación y la proyección social, fortaleciendo así los lazos entre la academia y la sociedad.

Aprovechamos la oportunidad para felicitar a Mtra. Rosa Lidia Morán y la Mtra. Evelyn Ayala Larios ambas coordinadoras de Proyección Social en sus dependencias, por su merecido reconocimiento de Liderazgo y aportes académicos a nivel local en la extensión universitaria, reconocimientos que fueron otorgados durante el Congreso.

In a solemn ceremony on Friday, June 23, the Specialized Institute for Healthcare Professionals received the credentials of "Accredited Higher Education Institution" from the Accreditation Commission of the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology of El Salvador, which is the public recognition of the academic quality of IEPROES, after having voluntarily submitted to the accreditation process, consisting of the presentation of an institutional self-study, audited by external peer reviewers and supervised by the National Directorate of Higher Education of the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology.

This recognition of educational quality is granted to IEPROES for a period of five years, and is the result of the joint work of the Strategic Board, the teaching and administrative staff. This recognition is of vital importance at a national and international level because it certifies the quality and competence of the professionals educated in this institution, being of great value to society in general, since it guarantees the delivery of professionals with a high degree of academic quality in the healthcare and environmental area, social responsibility, identity with institutional values and a solid ethical and human formation, to provide their services in different contexts.

IEPROES joins the 16 Higher Education Institutions in the country accredited, out of the 41 institutions of higher education nationwide, becoming the 4th Specialized Institute of Higher Education to achieve this category. This year IEPROES has been the only institution to obtain the accreditation seal of educational quality.

On May 4, in San Miguel, under the theme "Challenges of Scientific Publication", the dissemination of scientific research and social projection projects developed in 2022 was held.

An institutional research was presented at the event with the theme:

  • "IEPROES nursing graduate status and its influence with the professional educational profile".

Likewise, the Social Projection Unit and Cultural Extension Unit presented the projects and activities carried out in 2022 respectively.

During the event we had the participation of DR. Amado Batista Mainegra, Editor-in-Chief of the journal RESADES, with the presentation: "Socialization of science and scientific publication: challenges and new scenarios".

Closing the Socialization Forum with the presentation of awards to key players in research projects, social projection and cultural outreach.
